Participants have their own virtual tree which they have to feed through sustainable actions. Every time something positive for the environment is done the tree grows and blossoms. But…when people leave the tree it slowly dies. A dwarf is helping the participants.

Like in 2009 also in 2010 makeITfair joins the Treemagotchi. By sending a digital postcard to their mobile network operator people can feed their tree. Also makeITfair is involved in developing teaching materials on treemagotchi for secondary schools.

Time to turn campaigns for fair phones

In 2008 the Dutch organisation Time to Turn ran a campaign for a sustainable and just production of cellphones.

What did Time to Turn do?

Time to Turn asked people to write a postcard with a personal message to the cellphone industry. They collected those cards and offered them - as a text message bundle - to representatives of the phone & electronics industry, that met in Washington on November 19th, 2008.

Also the organisation discussed the issue in youth groups, student organisations, festivals and churches. We wrote a "bible study about cellphones" and they talked about the connection between injustice and our luxury items. They stimulated young people to think twice before they buy a new phone again.

Time to Turn also helped young people to get on the street. They organised several "freeze actions".

And they created a sticker for your mobile phone or laptop:
