The city of Düsseldorf is in favour of sustainable public procurement. The Düsseldorf approach includes the privileging of ecological beneficial products. Products made with exploitative child labour are banned. Where possible, preference is given to Fair Trade certified products (such as Transfair and Rugmark products).
In calls for tenders bidders are required to sign a Bidders Declaration, guaranteeing that the products they supply have been produced in compliance with the ILO Core Conventions. There are, however, no established monitoring mechanisms to verify such claims.
