Send a postcard to your Mobile Phone Company

This action has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part!

More than 15,000 people joined our call for fair wages and a reasonable workload for workers who produce mobile phones – as well as demands for a more transparent supply chain. Thanks to your support, we were able to hand thousands of postcards over to the world’s largest mobile phone producers.

These 15,000 signatures have made a big impression and the companies have responded to some of our demands:

  • Motorola told us that they take public pressure seriously and the company has changed its code of conduct, improving workers rights (including the right of collective bargaining). The electronics giant has also added the requirement that wages must meet workers’ basic needs.
  • Nokia – the company that received the most postcards from our campaign – started to define living wages at country level in dialogue with our Chinese partner SACOM.
  • we also saw some initial engagement from LG and from Apple.
  • makeITfair also noticed that health and safety conditions, overtime payments and social security had improved at two factories in China, following on the heels of our campaign.

However, mobile phone companies now need to focus on implementing their codes of conduct throughout their supply chains. We will continue to follow up with them to make sure that our demands are being met.

Please join our new action to keep up the pressure on mobile phone companies – and help makeITfair for everyone.
